What is CosmoDerm?

CosmoDerm is the first FDA approved human collagen filler made commercially available. It is purified from human dermal cells and is available for the treatment of wrinkles, acne scars, and other soft-tissue contour deficiencies as well as for lip enhancement.

What areas on my body can be improved with CosmoDerm?

The ten areas most frequently treated with CosmoDerm are:

  • Frown lines between the eyes
  • Acne scars
  • Cheek depressions
  • Smoker’s lines around the mouth
  • Marionette lines at the ends of the mouth
  • Worry lines in the forehead
  • Crow’s feet at the eyes
  • Deep smile lines
  • Dimples
  • Facial scars

It can also sometimes be helpful to augment CosmoDerm injections with additional treatments for comprehensive facial rejuvenation, including choices such as laser skin resurfacing and chemical peel.

Is CosmoDerm safe?

Yes. Collagen replacement is a safe and non-surgical and suffers no allergic reactions.

Human collagen is the dermal filler that is closest to what is normally found in the skin. CosmoDerm is approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and has been tested in accordance with strict FDA requirements. The end result of this stringent testing is a safe product, free from detectable viruses or contaminants.

How is a CosmoDerm treatment performed?

CosmoDerm is injected just below the surface of the skin, replenishing the collagen layer.

Dr. Cheski uses an ultra fine needle to inject CosmoDerm into the areas of the face you wish to have treated. CosmoDerm is formulated with a topical anesthesia for comfort, so you should feel little to no sensation. The treatment is outpatient and requires no downtime. You should be able to resume normal activity immediately.

Side effects are minimal, other than short-term swelling and redness in the areas of the injections. Results appear immediately and can last up to six months. While no pre-treatment allergy tests are required, there are a few precautions you should take prior to your CosmoDerm treatment:

  • Avoid using aspirin, non-steroid anti-inflammatory medicines, St. John's Wort, or high does of Vitamin E supplements for one week prior to your treatment because they may increase bruising or bleeding at the site of your injections.
  • Do not consume alcohol leading up to and after your CosmoDerm treatment because alcohol can effect the circulation and blood flow in your body, which could impact the effectiveness of your treatment.
  • You should avoid receiving CosmoDerm injections if you have an infection in the site where the infection will be placed.
  • The safety of CosmoDerm for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding has not been established.
  • The safety of CosmoDerm for patients under 18 years of age has not been determined.
  • You should NOT receive CosmoDerm injections if you have a hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in the drug formula.

What are the benefits of CosmoDerm?

CosmoDerm offer a distinct advantage over other facial rejuvenation techniques. Because CosmoDerm is created from purified human collagen, injections can be administered without having to wait for a skin allergy test. Not only does this save time and allow you to schedule your treatment at your convenience, but you can also avoid the discomfort of an allergic reaction.

CosmoDerm also offers short treatment and recovery time. Your appointment should take no more than an hour, making it very convenient for people who have busy schedules.
