Restylane

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a completely natural, synthesized and fully degradable hyaluronic acid (a natural substance that already exists in the human body) and can be administered without fear of allergic reaction.

Restylane maintains its shape using the body's own moisture, unlike rooster-derived hyaluronic acids and bovine collagen products. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmissions or development of allergic reactions to animal proteins.

How does Restylane work?

Restylane is injected into the skin with a very thin needle, lifting the wrinkle and smoothing it out, restoring the natural volume underneath the skin. The procedure takes about 30 minutes, leaves no marks or scars, and the results can be seen immediately. Restylane can also be injected into the lips, creating a more natural and/or sensuous look.

What areas on my body can Restylane treat?

A Restylane injection can be used to improve the skin's contour and reduce depressions in the skin due to scars, injury or lines. The facial lines and features that can be corrected are:

- Forehead lines
- Crow's feet
- Frown lines
- Smoker's lines
- Marionette lines
- Deep smile lines
- Cheek depressions
- Acne scars
- Some facial scars
- Lip border

Is Restylane safe?

Yes. Because Restylane is made from hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in your body, it behaves harmoniously with your own tissues. It will dissolve naturally with time, integrating itself back into your body.

There are a few common side effects, all occurring at the site of injection:

- Pain
- Swelling
- Itching
- Discoloration
- Tenderness

Occasionally more severe reactions can occur, such as tenderness, redness, and very rarely acne-like formations, and localized swelling thought to be brought on by hypersensitivity. These reactions typically last only a few weeks and are relatively mild.

What happens after the procedure?

Depending on the area, most folds and wrinkles only require one treatment. This treatment is usually good for up to six months, after which you should return for a touch up.

Downtime is nonexistent. Normal activity may resume immediately after your injection, if you feel comfortable. You may experience a little swelling, but it should only last a few hours. If there is any bruising, it can be safely covered with makeup. If the lips are treated, the swelling and tenderness should subside after two or three days.
